It's been a busy January here at Maverick VR. Just a few days ago, we made our way up to Bentonville, AK , and we currently have some team members in Atlanta bringing zombie-themed virtual reality booths to one of our awesome client's corporate event. Even though we've been busy, we always love taking some time out of the week to huddle together to learn about the latest happenings in VR technology.
As virtual reality and VR booths become more mainstream, a recent craze has emerged: Virtual Reality Poker. VR poker games can transport users to virtual casinos where players take the form of lifelike avatars, which can even replicate your facial expressions and body movements (AKA Virtual Poker Faces). Recent advances in virtual reality hardware and software have allowed people to experience the exciting and social elements of going to a casino, without having to leave your living room.
Whether it's dealing cards or handling chips, these recent innovations in VR poker are impressive to say the least. PokerVR, a leader in virtual reality poker, has been spearheading the virtual poker revolution. Free to play, their platform is as immersive as it is social. The versatility and capabilities of virtual reality allows players to play black jack on a Monte Carlo Yacht, or Texas hold 'em at a gorgeous resort. To add to the fun, your avatar can smoke a cigar, order drinks, and even stream sports game through the VR game. Players have the option to dress their avatar and chat with other players as if they were in the same physical room - guests can even purchase a pet donkey that sits next to you you while you play. Players can also observe their opponents reactions as if they were in the same room, and can study others' poker stats. With private tables and leaders boards, it's almost indistinguishable from the 'real' thing.
This new game, developed by Lucky VR, was previewed in Birmngham, UK. a few weeks at at Euro Gamer. Being one of the largest events of its kind in the United Kingdom, it gave Lucky VR the opportunity to show huge crowds the possibilities of virtual poker and VR casinos. Guests complimented the intuitive controls of the application as well as the hands-free, voice command features. According to a recent press release, PokverVR, “provides the perfect mix of serious gameplay, fun interactivity and social engagement that adds a whole new poker realm for players and gamers to explore,”
According to Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations at PokerStars. "Poker is about interaction....We're really excited to invest in the next generation of the game and to give players the opportunity to meet in a brand new virtual reality dimension."
